Montressor Barony

The Montressor Barony is mostly hilly land. Its south and west borders are a large river and lake, which bends sharply to bisect the territory east-west. Small lakes and wetlands can be found along its length, and numerous streams feed into it from the hills. To the north, it is bordered by steppes, between which and the river the hills are stony and rich with iron. Inside the curve of the river, the soil is much better. The hills there are lightly wooded and support many vineyards and sheep and goat herds. A few particularly fertile valleys house bountiful orchards. The eastern part of the barony is forest, which supports small trapping and timber industries. The eastern border lies where the forest ends.

The barony is roughly rectangular, but wider on the east end than the west. It is a full two day walk from north to south by highway, and roughly three from east to west. Most trips take longer because of the hilly countryside and meandering roads.

The city of Montressor sits on the edge of the lake in the southwest corner, where it acts as a major trading hub between the Montressor iron mines and the farms on the steppes further north and the rest of the empire downstream.
